Quakers will be participating in a lockdown of the Atomic Weapons Establishment in Berkshire

Quakers will be among those gathering at AWE (Atomic Weapons Establishment) Burghfield on 2 March to support a lockdown of the Berkshire facility, which assembles nuclear warheads.

Action AWE is organising the lockdown. Protesters will shut down the site for the day, risking arrest. The organisers have urged Quakers planning to take part in arrestable action to read AWE’s briefing pack, join an affinity group and attend the Sunday briefing at Reading Meeting House.

They have also invited Friends who would like to uphold those taking part to meet at the North Entrance of Burghfield any time during the morning of 2 March. Friends will join Pax Christi and other faith groups in prayers and singing. There will be silent worship at regular periods throughout the day. This is not an arrestable activity, Action AWE stressed.
