Quakers Jennifer Kavanagh and Chloe Scaling talked about Quakerism in a BBC1 programme last month to mark Advent.

My Faith and Me aired on 2 December and featured the presenter Cherry Healey tracing her faith journey and her ancestral links to Quakers.

Jennifer Kavanagh told the Friend it was a ‘very rewarding experience, and Cherry’s amazement and delight at what she was hearing rather mirrored my own experience twenty years ago’.

As part of the programme, Cherry Healey took part in a twenty-minute Meeting for Worship at Friends House in London. She said that she had found sitting still for that time difficult.

Jennifer Kavanagh said that Cherry Healey ‘was surprised to hear that Quakers weren’t all Christian. She asked, “What defines you as a Quaker?” and Chloe told her about testimonies. We discussed doubt, not claiming to have all the truth. She said that she felt the central pillars were peace and love and respect, and I added “and wanting to make the world a better place”.’
