Quakers from Lancashire and Yorkshire will be attending a Christian vigil for the No Faith in Fracking Interfaith Week of Action at Preston New Road fracking site in Lancashire on 27 April.

The vigil is the culmination of the Week of Action on 23-27 April.

Chayley Collis, from Huddersfield Meeting, told the Friend: ‘We’re planning a really exciting week with Friday as the highlight. We’re hoping to get speakers from different parts of the country to take part. So far, Christian Climate Action and Dharma Action Network for Climate Engagement will be getting involved in the Friday vigil, with a Quaker Meeting for Witness, which will also run every day as well. There will be a Catholic presence too, with talks about the impact of climate change from people’s first-hand experience.’

According to Chayley Collis, fifteen Quakers regularly attend the monthly vigil near Blackpool, including Friends from Manchester, Lancaster, Pendle and Garstang in Lancashire. She added: ‘Unfortunately Cuadrilla is planning to frack in April until June, which is why we’re trying to slow it down and make it clear why we’re objecting. We’re hoping that the more people hear about it, the more people will get involved.’

No Faith in Fracking is an interfaith group, containing many Quakers, committed to protecting the planet by resisting plans to frack for shale gas.
