Nominations practices were shared at a recent conference

Fifty Friends gathered recently at Woodbrooke Quaker Study Centre in Birmingham for the first nominations conference.

Participants were drawn from a number of groups concerned with nominations at the Yearly Meeting level. The groups represented included the Nominations Committee, the Committee on Clerks, and the Yearly Meeting Nominating Group. Members of the nominations committees for Quaker Peace & Social Witness, Quaker Life, Young Friends General Meeting and Yearly Meeting trustees also took part.

The conference ran from 31 July to 2 August. Attendees compared different ways of working and shared ideas and examples of best practice.

‘Next, the minute from the conference will be considered by all of the groups, including the Central Nominations Committee Terms of Reference Review Group, and it seems likely that a cross-committee working group might be established to help maintain the communication established by the conference’, Rhiannon Grant, one of the organisers, told the Friend.

The minute for the conference concluded: ‘We leave with gratitude for all we have learned and the opportunity we have had to develop ideas together.’
