Quakers have been sending art for a creative project launched by the Book of Discipline Revision Committee (BDRC) to illustrate what faith and practice means to them.

Jessica Hubbard-Bailey, co-convenor of the Engaging with Friends subgroup, part of BDRC, told the Friend: ‘Since its launch, Open to New Light has received nearly 30 submissions, including writing, paintings, collage, photographs, charcoal drawings, quotations and diagrams.

‘Friends from all over the UK, as far north as the Isle of Islay and as far south as Devon, have taken part, sending their creative responses and pondering “My own Quaker faith and practice would…”

‘Topics like climate change, the importance of art, joy, the beauty of nature, and humour have been touched upon, and the comment feature has enabled Friends to start conversations, sparking important questions.’

Jessica Hubbard-Bailey added that the project will continue to run for the next few months.

She said the submissions provide ‘valuable insight’ for the committee.
