Quakers are getting ready to take part in a week of action highlighting an increase in legislation undermining human rights.

Britain Yearly Meeting (BYM) is one of the ten groups alongside Amnesty International UK that is organising the ‘Stop the Rights Raid’ week of action this month.

The week, from 10–17 October, aims to raise awareness of the issues, following a raft of proposed legislation that campaigners say threaten to undermine fundamental human rights.

These include the Policing Bill and Nationality and Borders Bill, and the Human Rights Act itself, which is under review.  Campaigners plan to use the time to contact as many MPs as possible at constituency level, to show them how much they care about human rights and to ask their representatives to defend them.

Other organisations involved are Liberty, Stonewall, Freedom from Torture, the British Institute for Human Rights, Equally Ours, the End Violence Against Women Coalition, and the Humanists. Email weekofaction@amnesty.org.uk to get involved.
