Friends raise over £5,000 for homelessness

Five London Quakers raise over £5,000 for homelessness in the World’s Big Sleep Out campaign

A Quaker from Blackheath Meeting in London raised over £2,500 for homeless people this month. Jo Keogh raised the amount (including Gift Aid) when she took part in the Big Sleep Out event in Trafalgar Square on 7 December as part of the World’s Big Sleep Out campaign. The team of five London Quakers raised more than £5,415 for homeless charities when they slept outside in sleeping bags.

Friend Fred Ashmore, who raised over £1,600, said: ‘All five of us turned up and we all stuck it out through an absolutely foul night of heavy rain and wind. We were helped by the excellent survival bags provided by the organisers.’

Overall, 60,000 people raised $10 million for the World’s Big Sleep Out campaign, with events taking place across fifty-two cities worldwide. Fundraising on the London Quakers’ Virgin Money Giving donations page is open until 24 December.
