Quakers in Bewdley and Worcester protested an EDL march

by Rebecca Hardy 24th August 2018

Bewdley and Worcester Quakers held a peaceful protest on 21 July against a march by the English Defence League (EDL).

A group of Friends stood in witness against twenty to thirty EDL activists, who planned to deliver a petition against the building of a new mosque in the town, to the Guildhall in Worcester.

Friends stood at various point around the town with banners, but, according to Colin Billett, from Bewdley Meeting, the EDL were prevented from finishing.

He told the Friend: ‘A crowd of people blocked them. It was deliberate, but unplanned, as no one knew what exact route they were taking… The bad news is the EDL are returning on 1 September and calling it a “national demonstration”.’
