South West Friends were the latest Quakers to take part in a national relay aiming to shine a spotlight on the upcoming 26th UN Conference of the Parties (COP26).

Exeter Friends welcomed Jackie and Mark Waistell of Exmouth Meeting in the Exeter Meeting House garden as part of the Relay to COP 26. The couple had walked from The Open Door Centre, where Exmouth Friends hold their Meetings for Worship.

Bridget Oliver, from Exeter Meeting, told the Friend: ‘They passed the baton to Bridget and Richard Oliver of Exeter Meeting who cycled the next day, (with biodegradable balloons) to the home of Spiceland Meeting Friend Pat Ebdon.

Spiceland Friends then linked up with the Young Christian Climate Network [who have organised the relay]. It is hoped that the baton will reach Glasgow in time for the UN Climate Change Conference in November.’
