US-based Friends’ Peace Teams have considerably expanded their work in south-east Asia.

Refugees, teachers and human rights activists in the region are working alongside Quakers. They are providing training on issues such as conflict and nonviolence in countries including Singapore, South Korea, Indonesia, the Philippines and Australia.

The Friends’ Peace Teams have been operating in Indonesia in recent years and, with the expansion of their work, are changing the name of their ‘Indonesia Initiative’ to ‘Friends’ Peace Teams in Asia-West Pacific’.

They declared: ‘We share a faith – across religion, class and culture – in the power of a Living Spirit to give life, joy, peace and prosperity through love, integrity and compassionate justice among people who live in simplicity and equality’.
