Friends join other faiths in low carbon talks
An interfaith event looked at steps towards a low carbon future
Nearly eighty members of Birmingham faith communities, including local Quakers, recently took part in ‘Tread Lightly on this Earth’, where they discussed practical steps towards a low carbon future.
Northfield Ecocentre, a Central England Quakers project, was one of the main contributors to the event, which took place at the Birmingham Central Mosque. Another Central England Quakers project, the Peace Hub, publicised and supported the event.
The keynote presentation was given by Anna Bright, chief executive of Sustainability West Midlands. She spoke on ‘Sustainability: the wider Birmingham picture and the role of faith and community groups’. Friends of the Earth, West Midlands Pension Fund divestment campaign, Greenpeace and seven other groups working for a low carbon future were represented.
The event was organised by Footsteps (Faiths for a Low Carbon Future), a Birmingham interfaith organisation established in the run-up to the Paris Climate Conference of November 2015.
