Friends invited to Fringe
Quakers can share 'fringe events' on unofficial YMFringe website.
A Cambridge Friend has set up a website for Quakers to post details of ‘fringe events’ taking place to coincide with Yearly Meeting (YM).
Peter Griffin, from Jesus Lane Meeting, told the Friend: ‘This year’s Britain Yearly Meeting [on 15 November] is missing lots that makes it the rich, diverse event that it normally is. YMFringe aims to bring some of this back, by providing a space for Quaker groups that normally run – workshops, talks, stalls or any other event – to hold them virtually. It is not officially part of BYM (like any proper Fringe event!) and groups must organise the event themselves. YMFringe offers a calendar for all of these events to be collated together.’
So far, The Salter Seminar and an event from Quaker Voluntary Action are listed on the YMFringe website (www.ymfringe.co.uk) while, according to Peter Griffin, Quaker Action on Alcohol and Drugs and Quaker Roots are hoping to put something up soon.
Peter Griffin will host an open mic session on the evening before YM for Friends to share music and poems.
