Friends House food awarded Soil Association gold award

by The Friend Newsdesk 7th December 2012

Friends House has just been given a much sought after Soil Association ‘Food for Life’ Catering Mark gold award.  The mark was awarded for the outstanding quality of catering and food at Friends House, for the commitment to use produce from sustainable and ethical sources, championing local food and producing a menu that reflects seasonal ingredients.

Paul Gray, head of hospitality and facilities, said it was ‘great news’.  The award, he stressed, reflected just how well Friends House was implementing Minute 36 and taking a positive, pro-active, role in applying Quaker values to the selection and sourcing of food and its preparation and presentation.

He said:  ‘A number of people led this work. They deserve the praise: Jamie Scott, catering manager; Adam Pannell, head of service delivery; and chefs Gary Lewis and Elizabeth Sawah. We are all very proud to be putting good values into action and to have received national recognition for this’.
