Friends House library reopens
'The overhaul has been designed to create a welcoming space with the potential for more outreach.'
The Library of the Society of Friends re-opened this week after more than a year of major refurbishment.
Lucy Saint-Smith, library assistant, told the Friend that the library at Friends House will be running ‘an appointment-only service’ from Tuesdays to Thursdays at 10am to 5pm. The reopening follows months of refurbishment which Libby Adams, head of library and archives, described last year as ‘big, complex work’. This includes fresh paintwork, a new modern inquiry desk and reading desks, and restoring the wooden floor, which was inspired by a photograph of the library when Friends House first opened in the 1920s.
The overhaul has been designed to create a welcoming space with the potential for more outreach.
The library reopened on 15 June. Anyone who is interested in finding out more should look at the updated website or email library@quaker.org.uk.
