Friends get ready for Quaker Week 2022

A week to focus on welcoming families with a 'Share your light' theme

Quaker Week ends on World Quaker Day, 2 October, when Friends around the world will share reflections on the theme ‘Becoming the Quakers the world needs’.

Friends are celebrating Quaker Week this year with the theme of ‘Share your light’. With a particular focus on welcoming families, Quakers up and down the country are holding outreach activities for the week beginning 24 September, including a ‘Picnic for Peace’ in Henley and a talk on ‘Quakers: More than chocolate, oats and pacifism’ in south-west London. Earlier, Winchmore Hill Friends invited people to an Open House at their eighteenth-century Meeting house, and Rugby Friends are hosting a Thursday Meeting for Worship at Lutterworth Methodist Church at the end of the month.

‘Quakers worship both in stillness and in joyful, much noisier, children’s activities: in an increasingly fragmented society, these communities offer a welcoming place for all,’ Britain Yearly Meeting said in a press release, emphasising that Quaker worship ‘can be found in many different places, with hundreds taking part in Quaker camps this summer’. Quaker Week ends on World Quaker Day, 2 October, when Friends around the world will share reflections on the theme ‘Becoming the Quakers the world needs’.
