Nearly ninety Friends gathered in Norway to celebrate the eightieth anniversary of the Europe and Middle East Section (EMES) of the Friends World Committee for Consultation (FWCC). Quakers from seventeen countries attended the event on 21-24 June at Åsane Folkehøgskole, Hylkje, near Bergen, which also marked the 200th anniversary of Quakers in Norway. The theme was: ‘A New Heaven and a New Earth (Revelation 21:1): Finding New Light in turbulent times.’

The Epistle said: ‘We recalled conditions in Europe and the Middle East in 1938 when EMES began and how Quakers brought peaceful alternatives… despite totalitarianism then and growing populism today.’
