Quakers have been taking part in an online choir launched by the Friends in Tune group. The aim of the choir is to record two songs individually which are then uploaded to the Friends in Tune website. The tracks are then blended to form one overall choir by Quaker Tony Biggin.

Around forty Friends have signed up so far, singing ‘George Fox’ by Sidney Carter and ‘Truth’s a Seed’ by Alec Davison. Tony Biggin, co-founder of Friends in Tune with Alec Davidson, told the Friend that he got the idea during the first lockdown when they could no longer run their singing workshops. ‘Singing went from being one of the most healthy things you could do to one of the most toxic. A virtual choir seemed to be a way to help in a miserable, joyless time. The first rehearsal is tonight [5 May] where I will talk through exactly how to do it. I’ve written to everyone who’s ever taken part in any of the Friends in Tune workshops, but the uptake has been mainly through social media, through the Friends in Tune Facebook page and website, and the Quaker Arts Network.’

The idea is that the videos could then be streamed to Quaker events or viewed online.
