The sole Friend standing as a candidate for election in Scotland has highlighted the need to develop more jobs in the green economy.

Elisabeth Wilson, who is the Scottish Liberal Democrat candidate for Stirling, told the Friend: ‘As the MP for Stirling I would focus on green issues, as I consider this is one of the most pressing issues we face. I was a founder-member of a tree planting group and believe in mobilising local people. I would also vote against Trident replacement and renewal’.

Elisabeth added that she would fight to reverse the Scottish National Party’s strong centralisation agenda and, in particular, would work on behalf of rural areas.

She explained how her Quaker beliefs would affect her work: ‘I would support peace making and diplomacy rather than war making. I would try to act with integrity at all times’.
