Former banker Jon Long will describe his journey into and out of the dark heart of addiction in a forthcoming talk
Former banker Jon Long will describe his journey into and out of the dark heart of addiction in a forthcoming talk at Adderbury Gathering 2014. Jon will also cover subjects such as ‘story-telling and relationships, military and financial systems thinking, synchronicity, addiction, recovery, redemption and the monetary system’.
Jon’s talk will focus on his path to Quaker life, beginning with the story of his grandfather being rescued from ‘no man’s land’ on the Somme battlefields by Quaker stretcher-bearers. It will look at the influence on his life of this grandfather, and later, his father, a nuclear war civil defence planner.
‘Then I’m going to talk about my journey through banking, management consultancy and very large analytical systems, and the role they played in the banking crisis, and continue to play’, he told the Friend.
The talk will conclude with a description of Jon’s life in recovery, what he has found in being a Quaker, and his support for Positive Money, a movement working to democratise money and banking.
Up to 100 people are expected at the event. The talk, which is hosted by Banbury and Evesham Quakers, will begin at 3pm on Sunday 15 June.
