FGC takes up green challenge

North American Quakers have committed to change their lifestyles to help limit their impact on the environment.

  At the Friends General Conference Annual Gathering, speaker Shane Caliborne agreed to participate only on condition that Friends attempt to offset the carbon emissions produced by his travel to and from the event in Blacksburg, Virginia. By the end of the week, participants had made enough pledges to compensate for the travel of all plenary speakers and many more. These included reducing the temperature at which clothes are washed, car-pooling and other minor, manageable changes that people can make in their lives.
