Friends in stitches

The Quaker Tapestry, which has seventy-seven panels about a wide variety of Friendly subjects, is housed in Kendal Quaker Meeting House.

Over 4,000 people took part in its creation, aged from three to ninety-three, with contributions from fifteen countries!

In this puzzle, we shine the spotlight on the named people who are depicted in stitches.

1. This Quaker MP is described as ‘a champion of the rights of unrepresented people’ (10).

2. This Quaker businessman and scientist died the same year the Friend was launched; his panel showcases a wide-range of interests, including giving Royal Institute Lectures (12).

3. A red-cloaked Mary is highlighted in a panel featuring the quote: ‘once we have said “Our Father” in the morning we can treat no one as a stranger for the rest of the day’ (6).

11. A refugee from the French Revolution, this Stephen’s visits to European religious and political figures features in the panel (7).
