From wanderings to school sizzlers
When you go a-walking
756 miles, countless blisters and touching acts of kindness.
The 2013 UK Pilgrimage for Peace and Economic Justice has been an inspirational act of witness.
The Pilgrimage has been raising awareness of the serious issue of the government’s proposal to renew the Trident nuclear missile system, whilst slashing the NHS, education and social welfare budgets.
However, there have been lighter moments along the way. Here are just a few from this example of faith in action…
Above: An amazing vegan pie was crafted for the pilgrims, inspiring some pie-themed puns on their Facebook page:
‘Pie’l on the pressure to drop Trident!... sorry, “drop” was probably not the most PC word!’
‘It’s not pie in the sky, we can achieve it.’
Rest days (and passing grassy verges) were much appreciated by weary wanderers
On a less sunny day, an inconvenient bog prompted a mammoth sock-washing session. Hopefully, the Friendly feet this hosiery clad dried out quickly!
From pen to plate
Students from Sibford School got an insight into the origins of their food this term.
A new animal husbandry initiative is being run at the Quaker school. The latest stage saw two young Gloucestershire Old Spot pigs arrive.
Pupils helped to feed and care for the animals before they were full grown. Then, as the Sidford press release says, ‘the little piggies were big porkers who were taken from the pen… to be returned a few days later as 125kg of sausages’.
