Friends will be familiar with the conversation that begins ‘As I heard on Radio 4 recently’. A wag might say it crops up in ministry almost as much as ‘As I read in the Guardian’. But how many of you knew that The Archers, the long-running BBC Radio 4 soap, has Quaker origins?
