A great people?
A Friend from Scarborough shared a story of seeking a sight.
Dilys Cluer told Eye: ‘Reading about the 400th anniversary this year, I thought about George Fox and remembered that in 2022 I ensured that my husband and I followed in his footsteps by climbing Pendle Hill before we got too old (then aged seventy-five and eighty-three).
‘We were less fortunate with the weather – from the top, rather than “a great people to be gathered” [Quaker faith & practice 19.06], it was impossible to see any people at all, being in a raincloud and a howling gale. On the way down, however, the clouds parted and we could see fields and villages (though not as far as “Lancashire sea”).’
