Experiment with Light Conference
Friends met for the Experiment with Light Conference from 26 to 29 March
Thirty Friends from all over Britain met in Glenthorne Quaker Centre and Guest House in Grasmere, Cumbria last month for the Experiment with Light Conference. Questions explored at the weekend gathering on 26 to 29 March included: ‘How might we be open to the leadings of the Light?’ and ‘How can we support each other with trust, courage and commitment?’
Participants included the Experiment with Light Network steering group, as well as Rex Ambler, founder of the network, and Julia Ryberg from Sweden Yearly Meeting.
Terry Winterton, who is the Friend in Residence at the Glenthorne Quaker Centre and Guest House, told the Friend: ‘Glenthorne is a special place for the Experiment with Light Network as every five years they have a conference, so all the big decisions are made here.
‘The sessions looked at what affect Experiment with Light had had on people’s lives and Meetings, and where do they go from here.’
He added that the gathering was also a retreat, so there was a lot of time for reflection.
The Epistle, written by Friend Klaus Huber, said: ‘During our conference we were looking at the issue of how we express our Quaker faith that presently causes concern for the unity of Friends in Britain and elsewhere.
‘We were reminded of the answer Moses received to his question: who was speaking to him through the burning bush? “I am what I am” (Exodus 3:14). We encourage all Friends to rest in this “I am”, which is beyond reason and surpasses human understanding.’
Klaus Huber’s new book on the Experiment with Light Network Mind the Light: the Story of a Quaker Discipline was available at the conference.
