The Peace Museum in Bradford is holding an exhibition this month exploring the aftermath of the first world war from the perspective of German civilians.

‘Ending War, Imagining Peace: Germany 1918’ includes artefacts from the Peace Museum’s collection, with artwork by Käthe Kollwitz and items related to Bertha Von Suttner and the Women’s International League for Peace and Freedom.

The Peace Museum says the exhibition explores the often overlooked history of the war through the perspective of German civilians.

There is a particular focus on the role of German women in the revolution of 1918.

The exhibition draws on research by Ingrid Sharp and Corinne Painter from the University of Leeds, who are working on a project examining the end of the first world war and finding women’s voices.

They will also be giving a free talk on 15 March entitled ‘Hidden from History: Voices of the German Revolution 1918-1919’.

The exhibition runs until 29 March.
