Exeter Friends welcome local mosque
Quakers in Exeter have reached out to the worshippers of a local mosque
Exeter Friends invited the local mosque to an afternoon at the Meeting house this month as part of its commitment to supporting Muslims in the wake of the Christchurch shootings.
Ian Martin, from Exeter Meeting, told the Friend: ‘As we watch our communities become more polarised and separate, it was very good to be able to do a little to help build on our connection at Exeter Quakers with Exeter Mosque. Since the attacks in the Christchurch mosques, we have been doing what we can to build connections with our Muslim friends. Some Exeter Friends joined in the vigil outside the mosque, some Friends attended the “Visit My Mosque” day and some have joined in peace vigils in the town centre alongside members of the mosque community.’
Following the visit, the mosque sent Exeter Quakers a message. It said: ‘May God continue to bless us all with building relationships with everyone, sharing peace and tolerance, and we look forward to inviting the Quakers to Exeter Mosque in the near future.’
