Exeter Friends march for Europe
Friends were among those taking part in South West March and Rally for Europe
Quakers campaigning to stay in the European Union took part in the South West March and Rally for Europe in Exeter last month organised by Devon for Europe.
Many Friends from Exeter Meeting were at the 24 March event where Exeter MP Ben Bradshaw spoke. They met at Belmont Park and marched to Bedford Street in Princesshay, Exeter.
Alan Ray-Jones, from Exeter Meeting, told the Friend that between 2,000-2,500 people attended and there was a ‘strong Quaker presence’, including other Friends from South West Meetings.
He said: ‘The hope of these marches is to raise awareness. I agree with many Remainers that there should be another referendum on the ultimate deal. These remain rallies are very warm, with good spirits. I certainly think that Exeter heard the march.’
