The French Quaker group ‘Stop Fuelling War’ has been celebrating the news that the Eurosatory arms fair in June has been cancelled due to health concerns surrounding COVID-19. The group said on its website: ‘This year we have a unique opportunity: to recognise and act to secure the quality of life for everyone.’

It called for campaigners to ‘avoid returning to business as usual’ and to continue campaigning ‘while adjusting to the new digital challenges’.

‘We know that arms deals are still being agreed behind closed doors’, it said and pressed for Eurosatory to be used for peacebuilding or ‘cancel it forever’.

Meanwhile, the Campaign Against Arms Trade group has revealed goverrnment proposals to lend other countries £1 billion of public money so that they can buy British-made bombs and surveillance technology.
