European Quakers condemn Eurosatory
Friends in Belgium and Luxembourg speak out
Quakers in Belgium and Luxembourg have condemned the Eurosatory arms fair being held this week in Paris. The biennial arms fair is one of the largest in the world and attracts producers and buyers from all over the globe. This year there are more than one thousand exhibits.
Quakers in Belgium and Luxembourg have called for this Eurosatory, held at Villepointe north of Paris between 11 to 15 June, to be the last.
Belgium and Luxembourg Quakers have asked ‘economic and political decision-makers to focus their energies on building peace and not on selling, through Eurosatory, the seeds of our own destruction.’ They argue that ‘to survive and prosper, the European Union must disassociate itself from Eurosatory and invest its efforts in peaceful and sustainable livelihoods.’
