Enlivening Meetings
A workshop in York discussed the effectiveness of Meeting for Worship
Fifty Friends gathered in York on 11 June to discuss the value and effectiveness of Meeting for Worship.
The workshop, held at Friargate Meeting House, was a joint Kindlers and Quaker Life Network project. It was built around a series of questions and statements, and was designed to explore what works in worship and beyond. The day began with sessions on aids to worship, among them singing, focusing, the labyrinth, the uncovering of gifts and witness in the world.
‘Discussion was animated and purposeful,’ said James McCarthy of Acomb Meeting. His sentiments were echoed by Richard Hawkins of Carlton Hill Meeting, who described the day as ‘nourishing and informative’.
The programme also included sessions on the living with conflict project and the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP).
