Education in Ireland

Ian S Woods reports on Leinster Quarterly Meeting

Education has been at the heart of recent changes in Irish society and was the main subject of concern at Leinster Quarterly Meeting, which was held at Enniscorthy Meeting House, in County Wexford, at the end of June. The first part of Quarterly Meeting dealt with business and administrative matters.  In the main session two themes were addressed: ‘The value to Friends and others of Quaker education and its ethos’ and ‘What system of education would best serve modern Irish society?’. The speakers came from both Quaker and non-Quaker educational backgrounds and the session, with its four talks and discussion, continued for about two hours.
