The Salter lecturer at Britain Yearly Meeting this year will be Ed Mayo. Ed is secretary general of Co-operatives UK, the network for cooperative and mutual enterprises. He will deliver the lecture in the Large Meeting House at 4pm on Friday 24 May.
His lecture is entitled: ‘Raise the sails as the wind is changing – How radical and alternative ideas have become our economic lifeline.’
Ed was director of the New Economics Foundation (NEM) from 1992 to 2003. He helped to develop it from a staff of two to fifty and to become a leading ‘think-and-do-tank’, looking at ethical market activity, local economies and public service reform. He left NEM to become chief executive of the National Consumer Council and oversaw its merger with Energywatch and Postwatch to form Consumer Focus.
The Salter Lecture is hosted each year by the Quaker Socialist Society and is open to the public.
