Eccles Friends enjoy a new room with a view

A new garden room has been completed at Eccles Meeting

Friends in Eccles are enjoying their new garden room refurbishment after three years of hard work in planning, fundraising and building.

‘The Garden House project has had the effect of supporting our intention to engage more with the local community, to offer a peaceful, green space in a built up urban environment and to bring in more revenue and a more intensive use of the Meeting house beyond Meeting for Worship,’ local Friend Nick Tyldesley told the Friend.

Nick added: ‘The Victorian poet Dorothy Frances Gurney noted that you can be closer to God in a garden than anywhere else on earth and Taoism sees misty mountains as a suitable place for meditation on metaphysics. If we are to be serious about outreach we need to be welcoming to visitors and attractive Meeting houses and their surroundings are necessary’.
