Four protesters were arrested inside RAF Waddington

Four protesters were arrested inside RAF Waddington on 5 January.

They were campaigning against the continuing use of armed drones.

Chris Cole, Katharina Karcher, Gary Eagling and Penny Walker cut through the fence, creating a ‘New Year gateway for peace’.

They carried banners as they made their way towards the Reaper Ground Control Station, from which RAF pilots remotely operate armed drones over Iraq.

The protestors also carried reports of civilian casualties arising from recent UK, NATO and coalition airstrikes in Afghanistan and Iraq. They were arrested on suspicion of aggravated trespass.

Chris Cole was one of the keynote speakers at a conference held at Friends House in October 2014 titled ‘Afghanistan: The forgotten war and Britain’s legacy’. A theme in the conference was the way Afghanistan had become a ‘testing ground’ for the growing armed fleet of US armed drones.

Quaker Peace & Social Witness is a founder member of the Drone Campaign Network and continues to campaign actively against the use of drones.
