Dorset Quaker recognised
Margaret Barker awarded an MBE
A Dorset Quaker has been recognised in the New Year Honours List for supporting people who are facing poverty in her local area. Margaret Barker was offered, and accepted, membership of the Order of the British Empire (MBE). She has worked for twenty years with the Dorchester Poverty Action Group.
Mal Derricot, clerk of Dorset and South Wiltshire Area Meeting, told the Friend that Margaret’s work involved ‘being instrumental in setting up the first furniture recycling scheme in Dorset – Second Chance Furniture, based in Weymouth – and the Hub, a day centre for people who are homeless in and around Dorchester’.
