Does RE matter?

Geraldine Winnall poses the question: How interested are Friends and the public in Religious Education?

Devon and Cornwall Friends recently hosted a public event to draw attention to the large-scale changes in education that have affected the teaching of Religious Education (RE). It was well attended and included a thought provoking speech by Ed Pawson on ‘Does RE matter?’ followed by a short discussion.  RE has changed significantly since its beginnings in the 1970s and its current aims are: to know about and understand a range of religions and world views; to express ideas and insights about the nature, significance and impact of religions and worldviews; and to gain and deploy the skills needed to engage seriously with religions and world views.
