Derby Meeting peace vigil
Quakers in Derby to hold peace vigils in July
Friends in Derby are holding a peace vigil during July at the industrial museum in the town.
For seven weeks this summer an installation of red ceramic poppies, ‘Weeping Window’, is pouring out of the tower of Derby’s Silk Mill, which houses the city’s industrial museum.
The poppies are some of those originally displayed at the Tower of London and were created by Paul Cummins from Derby.
Derby Quakers are holding a peace vigil near the ‘Weeping Window’ each Friday from 2pm to 3pm for the duration of the display.
Members of Derby Meeting made a wreath of barbed wire and white clay poppies, which forms a focus.
White poppies and Quaker peace leaflets have been distributed and the response from passersby has been encouraging. The last vigil will be on 21 July.
