United worship held during the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity

Several Quaker Meetings have welcomed worshippers from local churches in celebration of the week of Prayer for Christian Unity. In a number of towns, united worship was held at a different place of worship on each day of the week, which ran from 18-25 January.

Friends in Alnwick Meeting reported a ‘very successful’ Meeting for Worship, at which seven Friends were joined by twenty-three others. Prior to the Meeting, they explained the nature of Quaker silent worship and gave three short readings from Quaker faith & practice.

‘The silence was deep and gathered,’ said local Friend Anne McPhun. ‘We were heartened when a visitor ministered and said how good it was that the churches, who share so many activities, could also share silence together. Another spoke warmly of our silent worship.’
