The Chester Quaker Economic and Climate Justice Group hosted a talk this week exploring how moving towards environmental sustainability could simultaneously bring real improvements in human wellbeing.

Martin Wilkinson, representing The Equality Trust delivered the talk on ‘A Convenient Truth: A better society for us and the planet’ on 22 May as part of a series of talks organised by the Chester Quaker Economic and Climate Justice Group.

Diane Williams, from the group, told the Friend: ‘It is very good timing as the Institute for Fiscal Studies has just announced that it is doing a five-year analysis of inequality. It’s a coincidence, but the timing has been perfect.’

She said: ‘Olivia Hanks from Quaker Peace & Social Witness came to our meeting to give a talk in February on the New Economy for Climate Justice, which was very well-received with fifty Quakers and non- Quakers attending, so we felt there was an interest in Chester in these kind of talks. We are keen to emphasise the two things are linked: economic and climate justice.’
