by The Friend Newsdesk 8th March 2013

The national environmental campaign of the Church of England, Shrinking the Footprint, has launched a new ‘app’ that offers smartphone users the opportunity to measure and reduce their carbon footprint.

The free Shrinking the Footprint ‘app’ focuses on energy used at home, in the office and on travel and even allows users to share their progress via Facebook and Twitter.

The ‘app’ is the latest example of the use new technology, by a faith group, to help people address their carbon footprint.

A Climate Impact Calculator was produced by Britain Yearly Meeting and Living Witness to help Friends estimate the climate impact of their lives.

The calculator is divided into seven categories: transport; energy; food; waste; house building; other goods and services; and public services and can be found at www.quaker.org.uk and www.livingwitness.org.uk.
