Campaign highlights plight of conscientious objectors
Campaign launched on International Conscientious Objectors' Day
War Resisters’ International marked International Conscientious Objectors’ Day on 15 May by launching a campaign on behalf of the six hundred conscientious objectors (COs) imprisoned in South Korea.
‘Worldwide, ninety-two per cent of all conscientious objectors imprisoned for refusing obligatory military service are in the Republic of Korea (South Korea)’, the charity said in a statement.
Most of those imprisoned by South Korea for refusing to undertake compulsory military service are Jehovah’s Witnesses.
