BYM seeks to document diversity of Friends in the UK
A new survey seeks to examine the diversity of the UK Quaker community
Britain Yearly Meeting (BYM) has launched a survey with the aim of examining the diversity of the UK Quaker community.
The survey, which contains eight short questions, was introduced by Edwina Peart on 17 December as part of her one-year role as diversity and inclusion project coordinator, which began in June 2018.
Edwina Peart asks: ‘[In] what ways are we already diverse? Where do our strengths and weaknesses lie in terms of inclusion?’
The responses will be used to ‘chart a path for further development in terms of structures and membership. In five or ten years’ time, we can use the survey to check on our progress and see what worked’.
Topics cover: ethnicity; nationality; age; Quaker community; sexual orientation; gender; and physical, sensory, learning and mental health impairments.
One question reads: ‘How would you define your socio-economic status (class)?’
Each question is followed by a text box rather than options to tick.
