BYM joins Green Investment Declaration
Quakers in Britain was awarded Oak level of the initiative
Britain Yearly Meeting (BYM) has joined a new global initiative, the Green Investment Declaration.
‘Thanks to their commitment to a green, clean transition, including investing more than five per cent of their financial assets in climate solutions, Quakers in Britain was awarded Oak level of the initiative (the highest possible),’ BYM said on its website.
The initiative encourages values-driven investors to advocate for green investment.
Clare Fussell, campaign director for Operation Noah, said: ‘We need to urgently shift to a low carbon economy if we are to reach net zero by 2050 and avert catastrophic warming of the planet. By signing this declaration, the Quakers are once again showing important leadership to the wider investment world. We call on other organisations to do likewise.’
BYM said that, internationally, churches ‘manage billions of pounds of investments’, with a UN Environment Programme official calling global faith groups the ‘third largest economic power on earth’.
