BYM highlights general election priorities
‘We must persuade candidates and parties to show truth and integrity and tackle the underlying causes of the climate and cost-of-living crises in a fair and sustainable way.'
Britain Yearly Meeting (BYM) has developed resources to aid Quakers in the upcoming 2024 general election.
‘This general election is such an important time for Quakers to make their values and priorities heard,’ Grace Da Costa, public affairs and media manager, told the Friend. ‘We must persuade candidates and parties to show truth and integrity and tackle the underlying causes of the climate and cost-of-living crises in a fair and sustainable way. I’d really encourage Friends to use our resources and get involved in the national and local debate.’
In addition to the material, BYM has highlighted four priority areas for the upcoming 2024 general election on the Quakers in Britain website. These are: democracy, truth and integrity; climate justice; peace and peace education; and migration.
The election guide sets out ways Friends and Meetings can get involved. These include: encouraging people to register to vote; holding election hustings; contacting local parliamentary candidates; and running activities.
