Friends held a silent vigil on Remembrance Sunday

by The Friend Newsdesk 18th November 2016

Bury St Edmunds Quakers were joined by friends in a silent vigil at the war memorial on Angel Hill during the afternoon of Remembrance Sunday.

Quotations on the theme of peace were read out and a wreath of white poppies laid on the memorial, with the following words attached: ‘In remembrance of the military and civilians of all nations who have been victims of war. May we all work hard for peace.’

This is the first year that Bury St Edmunds Quakers have organised such an event. Local Friends hope that it will be repeated in future years.

Bury St Edmunds Quaker Meeting report that ‘there seems to have been a lot more interest in white poppies this year and the number sold has noticeably increased’. They were sold at the Meeting house and a local shop and cafe.
