Britain Yearly Meeting 2016: Reading Quaker faith & practice

Friends gathered in Friends House Library to discuss 'Quaker faith & practice'

Friends were encouraged to engage with the rich mixture of inspiration and wisdom contained in Quaker faith & practice in a lunchtime event held in the Friends House Library on Sunday.

Rhiannon Grant, a member of the Revision Preparation Group (RPG), explained the background to the group. She talked about the work being done across Britain in Meetings where Friends were working their way through the text in a structured reading programme.

She explained: ‘The job of the Revision Preparation Group was to prepare Friends for a possible revision of Quaker faith & practice and also to advise on what a revision might look like.’ The main aim of the group, she said, was to ‘get Friends to read and discuss the book’.

Friends attending the session split up into small groups of four and five and discussed a passage from the present Quaker faith & practice relating to conscience and conscription.

Friends present enjoyed looking at a display of early editions of Quaker faith & practice and, in particular, a beautifully handwritten version from the eighteenth century.
