Britain Yearly Meeting 2016: Building a new economy

QPSW hosted a special interest group on economic stewardship

by Roland Carn 3rd June 2016

Quaker Peace & Social Witness (QPSW) hosted a lively interest group on Saturday 28 May entitled: ‘Building a new economy: simple, equal, economic stewardship.’

Friends were told: ‘The principles of economics are simple. They can by understood by an eight-year-old child. But they are often dressed up to be difficult.’

QPSW seeks a prophetic vision for a fair and effective new economy, where practice reflects the spiritual insights linking theory with policy. Ten principles to underpin specific policies in the new economy are available to study and use.

The new economy brings many Quaker activist campaigns together in a simple system. Friends can see how personal action today levers money to engineer system change for fairness and climate change.

Friends were encouraged to study discussion and action leaflets that have been produced by QPSW.

Tantalizingly brief. A little too brief, perhaps. For instance, what are these “ten principles” and where can I find them?  Presumably these are the ones an eight-year-old can understand?  What is this “new eccomony” referred to in the penultimate paragraph and where can I read more about it?
