Bradford Quakers joined other local faith communities recently to issue a statement on the migration crisis.

Representatives of the Jewish community, the Council of Mosques, the Hindu and Sikh communities, Anglicans, Methodists and Quakers gathered outside Bradford City Hall on Thursday 9 June to publicise the statement at an event organised by Bradford City of Sanctuary.

In the statement, the groups recognised ‘the common humanity and dignity of all people, whatever their status and background’, and their city’s rich tradition of welcoming those seeking sanctuary.

The faith communities called upon Bradford ‘to respond with compassion, wisdom and urgency to the needs of those who have fled war, political and sexual oppression’.

Well done Bradford! The phrase - ‘the common humanity and dignity of all people, whatever their status and background’ is not a soft ideal, but the only way forward to save the planet and all its creatures.
