Bombs and friendship

'Bombs and friendship' by Roger Iredale

You were warned what would happen if you invaded Iraq
but you left us facing a predictable fate
with bombs. We needed friendship, not an attack.

Your politicians bamboozled you with a pack
of lies and dossiers strung with hate.
You were warned what would happen if you invaded Iraq.

Your parliamentarians and bosses exhibited lack
of common sense, left us victims of a state
with bombs. We needed friendship, not an attack.

Your generals displayed a distinctive knack
of killing civilians at a hell of a rate.
You were warned what would happen if you invaded Iraq.

You left us in ruins, you didn’t come back.
There was nothing you thought you couldn’t create
with bombs. We needed friendship, not an attack

on us, our homes, religion, gods. But wait:
you created your disaster when you swallowed the bait.
you were warned what would happen if you invaded Iraq
with bombs. We needed friendship, not an attack.
